Privacy Policy
Effective October 6, 2026
The Faceoff app for iPhone and iPad shows no ads and collects no advertising identifier. The website at faceoff.day may show ads from Google, described under Advertising on the website.
Faceoff has no accounts and no sign-in. It never asks for your name, email address, phone number or contacts, and nothing it collects identifies you.
What the app collects
Faceoff uses Google Firebase to run the game and to understand how it is played:
- Analytics records gameplay events — which day you played, the category of each question, your answer, how sure you said you were, your score and how long you took, and whether you shared your result — along with your current streak, how many days you have played and whether daily reminders are on, together with a randomly generated app-instance identifier, your device model and operating system version, and your approximate location (country or region) worked out from your IP address.
- Crashlytics collects crash reports: the device model, the operating system version, which day and round you were on, and a technical description of what went wrong.
- Performance Monitoring measures how long the app takes to start and draw its screens, and how long its network requests take.
- Anonymous Authentication creates a random user identifier the first time the app runs. It is not tied to any account or to anything about you.
- Daily totals (Cloud Firestore). When you finish a day, the app adds your score and which rounds you got right to that day's totals, which are plain counts shared by everyone who played. They are what the app uses to show where you landed today. An empty marker stored under your anonymous identifier stops the same install being counted twice; nothing stored links that identifier to your score.
- Remote Config downloads game settings.
- App Check uses Apple's App Attest service to confirm that requests come from the genuine app.
Google's handling of this data is described on the Firebase Privacy and Security page and in the Google Privacy Policy.
Playing on the website
You can also play Faceoff in a web browser at faceoff.day. The website:
- Keeps your games in your browser. Your answers, scores and streak are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They are never sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data erases them.
- Adds to the daily totals exactly as the app does, using a random identifier created by Firebase Anonymous Authentication. Firebase keeps that identifier, and a random installation identifier, in your browser's storage.
- Uses Google Analytics for Firebase to record the same gameplay events as the app, plus whether you tapped a link to the app. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland it sets analytics cookies only if you agree in the consent message, and otherwise sends only cookieless measurements. Elsewhere it uses first-party cookies to tell visits apart.
- Uses Firebase App Check with Google reCAPTCHA Enterprise to confirm requests come from the genuine site. reCAPTCHA collects hardware and software information, such as device and application data, and sends it to Google under the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
Advertising on the website
The website may show ads from Google AdSense, in a banner below the game and a box on the results screen. The app never shows ads.
- Cookies. Google and its partners use cookies and similar storage in your browser to show ads, measure them, limit how often you see the same one and, where permitted, choose ads based on your interests and your visits to this and other websites. Google explains this in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
- Your consent. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, a consent message from Google asks before any cookies are used for ads or analytics. If you don't agree, ads are not personalised and no cookies are used to choose them. You can change your choice any time with Privacy choices at the bottom of the faceoff.day home page.
- Opting out elsewhere. You can turn off personalised ads from Google at Google's My Ad Center, and from many other ad companies at aboutads.info.
- What ads can show. Ads are served only through Google AdSense, which may show ads from Google's certified partners. Gambling and betting ads, and get-rich-quick schemes, are blocked.
Why
To find out which questions are too easy, too hard or unclear; to find and fix crashes and slow screens; to show everyone how the day went; to keep the daily totals from being tampered with; and, on the website only, to pay for running Faceoff through ads.
What we do not do
Your data is never sold. The app has no advertising, collects no advertising identifier, and uses nothing to track you across other apps or websites. On the website, the only advertising is through Google AdSense, as described above; we share nothing else about you with anyone.
Apple services
Your game history, streak and settings sync through iCloud in your own Apple account, where we cannot see them. Daily reminders are notifications scheduled on your device; nothing about them is sent to us. These are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months and crash reports for up to 90 days, then deleted automatically. Daily totals are kept, but they are only counts and contain nothing about any one player. To have data associated with your installation deleted sooner, email faceoffdailygame@gmail.com and we will remove it. Deleting the app, or clearing the website's data in your browser, stops all future collection.
Children
Faceoff is suitable for all ages. It has no chat, no user-generated content and no purchases, and it collects nothing that could identify a child or anyone else. The app has no advertising. The website shows general-audience ads from Google, with gambling-style ads blocked; it is not directed at children.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EEA or California, you have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data held about you, and to object to its processing. Because we hold nothing that identifies you, in practice this means the installation data described above; write to the address below and we will act on it. Our legal basis for processing is our legitimate interest in running and improving the game; on the website in the UK, the EEA and Switzerland, cookies for ads and analytics rest on your consent, which you can withdraw with Privacy choices.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the effective date above will change with it. Questions to faceoffdailygame@gmail.com.
